the trip
This tour is especially fun for those who want to learn and get good exercise along the way. The story of the eruption is being told about the people who experienced the eruption and had to leave their home suddenly during the eruption night. Also, the history of the islands is further lighted, and therefore great information about other history and life on the island today and in earlier times. A native guide makes the walk enjoyable by intertwining fun stories from the people mixed with the facts. The magnificent view at the top of Eldfell is then the best prize after going up the mountain.
Directions
The walk starts at the pier, and goes in the direction of Skansinn. Arrive there and stop and go over the beautiful area that is Skansinn. Let's easily review the structures located there such as the Stave Church, Landlyst, the fortress and more.
From Skansinn we go out to the new lava and we reach where the old swimming pool stood, from there we walk and walk along the lava field, where Vestmanneyjabær winds over, the history of the lava heat is passed and then we arrive at the viewing platform where the glacier is only crossed stood back after the eruption. So the lava is light and fun with a few story stops. Next up is the volcano itself which is a little more challenging than the lava but then everyone just goes at their speed and the mountain is like five slopes that are easy to stop in between. The peak of the firebreak holds one of the most beautiful views of the islands. Then go down the mountain and guide the guide where to go best if you want to end up downtown, in Eldheimum or do other fun.
